Your questions, answered
Everything you need to know about running engaging, anonymous sessions with OpenFloor, from joining and moderation to privacy and pricing.
Getting started
What OpenFloor is and how to join a session.
OpenFloor is a real-time audience engagement platform. You run interactive sessions (anonymous live Q&A, polls, word clouds, ratings, ranking polls, surveys and timed quizzes) where everyone has a way to contribute. It works entirely in the browser, so there is nothing for you or your audience to download.
Participants join by entering the six-character session code on the join page, or by scanning the QR code you display. No account or app download is needed to join.
No. Only the person hosting a session needs a free OpenFloor account. Audience members can join using the code or QR code without creating an account.
Any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer works. Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge are all supported. OpenFloor is also an installable progressive web app (PWA), so you can add it to your home screen for quick access.
Create a free account, set up a session and share its code or QR code. No credit card is required. Free includes Q&A, 3 multiple-choice polls and 1 word cloud per session for up to 50 participants.
Sessions & engagement
The interactive tools you can run and their limits.
You can run anonymous live Q&A with voting, multiple choice polls, word clouds, ratings (star, NPS and emoji scales), ranking polls, open-text polls, multi-question surveys, and timed quizzes with leaderboards. Q&A runs alongside your other activities throughout a session.
One engagement is live to the audience at a time, which keeps everyone focused on the same thing. You decide when to switch the active engagement, and your live Q&A continues to collect questions in the background the whole time.
The free tier supports up to 50 participants per session, and Pro supports up to 1,000 per session. The limit applies per session, not per account, so it resets for every new session you create.
Free sessions can run for up to 2 hours; Pro sessions have no time limit. Sessions that go inactive end automatically so nothing is left running by accident.
Yes. You can group questions into colour-coded categories so large sessions stay easy to navigate, and participants can filter by category. The free tier includes up to 3 categories per session, and Pro unlocks more.
Questions move from pending to approved or rejected, and can then be marked answered or hidden. When moderation is enabled, new questions start as pending until you approve them; when it is off, questions are approved automatically.
Moderation & control
Stay in control of what your audience sees.
Yes. Turn on moderation and incoming questions land in an approval queue, where you can approve, reject, hide or pin each one. Leave moderation off for fully open sessions where every question appears immediately.
Yes. Content filters automatically flag potentially inappropriate submissions for review, and you can maintain a blocked-words list for a session to catch specific terms.
Yes. Bulk actions let you approve, reject or hide many questions in one go, which keeps busy sessions manageable without clicking through each question individually.
Yes. On Pro, invite a colleague to your team and give them permission to moderate. They accept the invitation and sign in with their own account to help manage questions.
Yes. Presenters and moderators can pin the most important questions to the top, post replies that participants can see, and add emoji reactions to acknowledge questions during the session.
Privacy & security
How audience participation and session data work.
Audience members can join without an account and submit questions without a name attached. Quiz participants use a display name. Anything someone chooses to type into a question or response may identify them.
OpenFloor uses a browser identifier to help limit repeat votes on the same question. This is a practical safeguard, not proof of a unique person. Our privacy policy explains the device data used.
Access controls restrict session management to authorised accounts, and connections to the hosted service use HTTPS. Our privacy policy explains how session data is stored and which service providers process it.
Free-tier data is retained for 7 days and Pro data for 365 days. A scheduled purge removes session content after the retention window. You can also delete your sessions and their questions at any time, and request deletion of your account.
OpenFloor is governed by the laws of England and Wales. Payments are handled by Stripe and application data is hosted on Supabase (PostgreSQL). Our privacy policy sets out exactly what is collected and how it is used.
Billing & plans
What the free tier covers and how Pro works.
The free tier includes up to 50 participants per session, one active session at a time, Q&A with voting, 3 multiple choice polls and 1 word cloud per session, and 7-day data retention. No credit card is required.
Pro pricing is shown on our pricing page in your local currency. Paying annually gives you the equivalent of two months free compared with paying monthly, and you can cancel at any time.
Pro raises the participant limit to 1,000 per session and adds unlimited sessions, every engagement type (ratings, rankings, quizzes, surveys and open-text polls), advanced analytics and export, custom branding, session scheduling, sentiment analysis, up to 5 team members, priority support, and 365-day data retention.
Yes. Pro includes up to 5 team members: invite existing OpenFloor users by email to help moderate and present your sessions. Each person accepts the invitation from their own account, and you choose whether they can moderate, present, or both.
Yes, you can cancel whenever you like. You keep Pro features until the end of your current billing period, after which your account reverts to the free tier, including its 7-day retention, so older data is gradually removed under the free policy. Export anything important before downgrading.
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe, our secure payment processor. Your card details are handled by Stripe and never touch our servers.
